Most people think that when it comes to weight loss for diabetics your diet has to be more strict and rigid. In fact, this is not true at all. Many non-diabetic people could benefit from using this type of diet.

The main principle of a diabetic diet is that you want to use a plan that has been approved by your doctor or by the diabetic association.

Regardless of if you have Type1 or Type2 diabetes, it is important to always be monitoring your condition. When it comes to losing weight just keep up with your monitoring so that you lose weight safely. It can be extremely helpful to add in small amounts of exercise too. Then increase the amount as your weight loss progresses.

There are certain recommended guidelines such as:

    * Type1 sufferers should consume 16 calories per pound of body weight each day.

    * Type2 sufferers should aim for a daily intake between 1500-1800 calories.

    * Please note that these amount can change depending upon your frame size.

As with any diet plan, men can consume more calories than women. This is due to the fact that they can burn fat faster, and that they have a larger muscle mass than women.

For a diabetic carbohydrates are a major issue. Consuming too many carbohydrates can result in raised glucose levels, which can be dangerous. By consistently monitoring your carbs you can see how much you can eat without raising your glucose level too much.

Another issue is that of sugar. While you can eat sugar, you need to watch how much sugar you eat when combined with carbohydrates. Just eating one slice of cake can cause major issues for a diabetic. But by monitoring your levels and following a good diabetic weight loss plan, you will know if you can safely have that slice or not.

As a diabetics you do need to watch your calorie intake each day. As you will be eating fewer calories it is important to pay attention to the nutritional value of each food. This is where deciding to eat that slice of cake, or drink that can of pop is really worth it. What else could you eat that has more nutritional for the same amount of calories?

Try to start looking at cakes, treats and drinks as nothing but empty calories. This may help them seem less appealing.

As you can see weight loss for a diabetic is not really that different to non-diabetics. It all comes down to making wise food choices. A recommended diabetic weight loss plan is extremely nutritional, which is why it is perfect for anyone trying to lose weight.
