Two weeks after conception, the brain and spinal cord (also known as neural plate) start to develop. On the 6th to 7th week, it divides into three sections: forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain.
The brain gets more developed during the 3rd trimester – especially the cerebellum part. The cerebrum, or thinking part, starts working too.
By the time the baby is born, the brain is usually fully developed.
